A very short story.

No Recognition

She stared at her phone. It was difficult to say how long she had been doing so, it had been at least several minutes.

Mari had been hoping for some kind of response by now, any kind of response. She had taken a significant risk by investing so much of her time and scarce dollars into this piece of art. Days and weeks had gone by while she toiled away at her creation. It was a hybridisation of traditional and modern mediums.

Initially she had spent many, many hours writing algorithms on her computer to generate something random, given some constraints of course, which she could use as a base to expand upon with paint. Eventually the bespoke software was able to produce interesting results made up on abstract contours, textures and patterns. She printed this onto a very large two meter canvas, and then painted layers and layers of color, creating complex shapes and movements.

That had concluded 3 weeks ago. She had spent her time and money since then on marketing, sending messages, posts, and calls to anyone and everyone she knew who was able to communicate and present her work online and in person.

And yet, nothing… A cruel grind when millions of other people are doing the same thing.

Motivation for the next piece perhaps, but first she’d had to find a way to earn some money.
